Key details about FAA MedXPress:

  • Be Absolutely Honest: The FAA places high importance on honesty. Falsifying information or failing to disclose medical history can lead to revocation of licenses.
  • Document Everything (3-Year Rule): You must list all visits to health professionals in the last three years, along with all current, and, if possible, past medications (including over-the-counter).
  • Specific Disqualifying Conditions: Be aware that conditions like bipolar disease, psychosis, epilepsy, substance dependence, and specific heart conditions (e.g., heart valve replacement) are likely to cause a deferral (not necessarily a permanent denial, but a longer process).

  • Wait if Necessary: If you have an active, unmanaged, or new condition, do not submit the MedXpress application until you have discussed it with an AME and have your records in order.
  • Get a "HIMS" AME if Needed: If you have a mental health history, specifically seek out a HIMS (Human Intervention Motivation Study) AME, as they are trained to handle more complex cases.
  • Important Tip: Once you submit your application in MedXpress, your AME has 60 days to upload it, or it will expire.
